What each part of the prompt does
- Skin tone named
- This prompt adds "skin tone" to the identity line. Gemini sometimes lightens skin when it styles a glamorous film look, and naming it is the simplest guard against that.
- Chiffon and pallu
- Chiffon is light enough to move, and "the end of the pallu lifts in the breeze" gives the flying fabric that defines song sequences from that decade.
- Gajra and loose hair
- A small jasmine gajra in loose hair is a precise detail of the look, and the word "small" keeps it from growing into a large floral crown.
- Warm wall and haze
- A warm sunlit wall is a plain background that will not compete with the red saree, and "soft warm haze, gentle contrast" recreates the diffused glow of film stock from the period.
Variations to try
Same idea, one thing changed. These have no example image yet.
Yellow chiffon Using the person in my uploaded photo, keep their face, features and skin tone exactly as they are. Turn the photo into a 1990s Bollywood film still: they wear a flowing chiffon saree in deep yellow with a thin red border, hair loose with a small jasmine gajra, standing against a warm sunlit wall as the end of the pallu lifts in the breeze. Grainy film texture, soft warm haze, gentle contrast and the rich yellows and reds of a vintage Hindi film. Portrait 4:5 frame, framed from the waist up.
1970s instead of 1990s Using the person in my uploaded photo, keep their face, features and skin tone exactly as they are. Turn the photo into a 1970s Bollywood film still: they wear a printed georgette saree in orange and brown, hair in a high bouffant with winged eyeliner, standing against a warm sunlit wall as the end of the pallu lifts in the breeze. Grainy film texture, faded warm colour, gentle contrast and the look of a vintage Hindi film print. Portrait 4:5 frame, framed from the waist up.
Misty hill station Using the person in my uploaded photo, keep their face, features and skin tone exactly as they are. Turn the photo into a 1990s Bollywood film still: they wear a flowing chiffon saree in deep red with a thin gold border, hair loose with a small jasmine gajra, standing on a misty hill road lined with pine trees as the end of the pallu lifts in the breeze. Grainy film texture, soft cool haze, gentle contrast and the rich reds of a vintage Hindi film. Portrait 4:5 frame, framed from the waist up.
If the result isn't right
- If the drape looks wrong or the saree turns into a gown, add "saree draped in the nivi style, pallu over the left shoulder".
- Gemini can drift toward a film star's face; reply "use exactly my face from the photo, not an actress's face".
- When the result looks like a modern studio shoot, ask for "diffused, slightly blurry highlights and faded film colour".
- If your skin looks lighter than in your photo, say "match my skin tone to the uploaded photo exactly, do not lighten it".
