What each part of the prompt does
- Nine named styles
- Each tile gets a named cut instead of a vague request for variety. Named styles come out distinct; "different hairstyles" alone tends to produce nine slight variations of the same look.
- Lock the rest
- Face, skin tone, eye colour, expression and clothes are listed as identical. That list is what keeps the person recognisable across all nine tiles.
- Fair comparison
- The same light, background and framing in every tile mean the only difference you notice is the hair. A changing background would pull the eye away from the haircut.
- Grid layout
- Thin white gaps and a square image give a clean contact-sheet look that is easy to save, crop into single tiles or send on a messaging app.
Variations to try
Same idea, one thing changed. These have no example image yet.
Short cuts only Make a 3x3 grid of nine portraits of the person in my uploaded photo, each with a different hairstyle: a buzz cut, a textured crop, a pixie cut, an undercut with a longer top, a slicked-back short cut, a short curly cut, a side part, a micro fringe, and a tousled short shag. Keep the face, skin tone, eye colour, expression and clothes identical in every tile; only the hair changes. Same soft front light, same plain light grey background and the same head-and-shoulders framing in all nine, so the styles are easy to compare. Thin white gaps between tiles, square 1:1 image.
Colour instead of cut Make a 3x3 grid of nine portraits of the person in my uploaded photo, keeping their current haircut but changing the hair colour in each tile: platinum blonde, honey blonde, copper red, auburn, chestnut brown, jet black, ash brown with highlights, pastel pink, and silver grey. Keep the face, skin tone, eye colour, expression and clothes identical in every tile; only the hair colour changes. Same soft front light, same plain light grey background and the same head-and-shoulders framing in all nine. Thin white gaps between tiles, square 1:1 image.
Wedding updos Make a 3x3 grid of nine portraits of the person in my uploaded photo, each with a different hairstyle: a low chignon, a braided crown, a half-up half-down style with loose curls, a sleek low bun, a side-swept curled style, a twisted updo, a messy textured bun, a voluminous high bun, and soft Hollywood waves. Keep the face, skin tone, eye colour, expression and clothes identical in every tile; only the hair changes. Same soft front light, same plain light grey background and the same head-and-shoulders framing in all nine, so the styles are easy to compare. Thin white gaps between tiles, square 1:1 image.
If the result isn't right
- If the face drifts from tile to tile, reply "the same face in all nine tiles, copied exactly from my photo".
- Gemini sometimes repeats a style; name the tile that is wrong, for example "tile 5 should be a sleek high ponytail".
- For a closer look, ask for one style on its own afterwards at 4:5 with the same face lock.
- Long styles can get cropped at the bottom of a tile; add "show the full length of the hair in every tile".
